How to remove a background in three steps
Add your image
Drag & drop, paste from the clipboard, pick a file, or paste an image URL. Batch uploads are supported.
Let the AI work
Pick a model and press process. Everything runs locally with WebAssembly or WebGPU — typically 2–15 seconds per photo.
Download the cutout
Fine-tune the edge, choose transparent or a solid colour, then download a full-resolution PNG or JPG.
Why people use BgCut AI
Truly unlimited
Because the model runs on your device there is no per-image cost, so no credits, no quotas and no watermark.
Private by design
In Browser AI mode your photo never leaves the device. Ideal for ID photos, clients and confidential work.
Switchable models
Six model families with three quality tiers each, plus a custom model id field if you want to bring your own ONNX model.
Real edge control
Cut level, softness and feather sliders refine hair, fur and glass edges instead of leaving a hard cut.
Works everywhere
Fully responsive layout with touch dragging, clipboard paste and a mobile friendly before/after slider.
Instant after the first run
Models are cached by the browser, so the second image starts in milliseconds and works even offline.
Model comparison
Download sizes are the exact ONNX weight files measured from Hugging Face. Times below were measured on a 2-core CPU in headless Chromium with a 1024 px photo — a GPU or WebGPU device is several times faster.
| Model | Best for | Weight file | CPU time* | License note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MODNet | People, portraits, selfies | 6.6 – 26 MB | 3 – 7 s | Apache-2.0 |
| BRIA RMBG-1.4 | Best all-round default | 44 – 176 MB | 13 s | Non-commercial (BRIA license) |
| oRMBG | Products, fashion, sharp edges | 44 – 176 MB | 13 s | Permissive |
| ISNet | General purpose, objects | 44 – 176 MB | 14 s | Permissive |
| BiRefNet Lite | Fine hair and detail | 114 – 224 MB | needs ~2 GB RAM | MIT |
| BEN2 | Highest fidelity output | 219 MB | needs ~2 GB RAM | Permissive |
| BRIA RMBG-2.0 (cloud) | Best quality, heavy images | server-side | ~5 s GPU | BRIA commercial license |

Frequently asked questions
Is this background remover really free and unlimited?
Yes. The AI models run inside your browser, so there is no server cost per image. There is no daily limit, no watermark and no signup.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
In Browser AI mode, no. The model is downloaded once to your device and every image is processed locally. Images are only sent to a server if you deliberately switch to the Cloud lane.
Which model should I choose?
MODNet is the fastest for people and selfies. BRIA RMBG-1.4 is the best all-round default. oRMBG gives sharper edges on products and fashion. BiRefNet Lite and BEN2 are the highest fidelity but need about 2 GB of free memory.
Why is the first run slower?
The first time you use a model, your browser downloads the ONNX weights (6 MB to 220 MB). They are cached afterwards, so later runs start almost instantly and work offline.
Do I get a transparent PNG?
Yes. Choose PNG export and the background is fully transparent with soft alpha edges preserved. Use JPG export if you want a solid colour background flattened in.
Can I remove backgrounds from several images at once?
Yes. Drop multiple files or paste them in, and BgCut AI processes them one after another. Download All packages every finished cutout into a single ZIP.
Can I use the cutouts commercially?
The MODNet, ISNet, oRMBG and BiRefNet models used here are permissively licensed. BRIA RMBG-1.4 is licensed for non-commercial use unless you hold a BRIA commercial licence, so check the model licence before commercial projects.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The interface is fully responsive, supports touch dragging on the before/after slider, and clipboard paste on mobile.
